GRAPES

Ripe and bursting with complex flavours, we produce premium quality Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer grapes for both the New Zealand and international markets.

WHERE DO THEY GROW?

We grow our grapes in Gisborne, New Zealand’s third largest wine growing region. We have more than 300 hectares of premium quality vineyards in the Makauri, Makaraka, Manutuke regions.

Gisborne’s boasts long, hot summers, an inland microclimate with a mild maritime climate. This combination along with its rich fertile soils makes Gisborne the perfect wine growing region.

OUR PROCESS

HOW DO WE GROW GRAPES?

We embrace the romance of traditional grape growing and wine making techniques.  

  • Our grapes are grown without irrigation, allowing the characteristics of each season to be reflected within the vintage.
  • Our experienced and highly talented Viticulturists, manage and care for our vines and soil daily.
  • We harvest our grapes from a block of low-yielding, quality vines during the autumn months.
  • All our Ashwood Estate wines are fermented in oak, there is no stainless-steel barrels.
