GISBORNE Constructing our Gisborne Covered Production

Our Technology

We are constantly looking at how we can use technology and innovation to evolve our business. From our state-of-the art salad factory, new cooler and distribution centre to exciting ag projects like drone and robotic integration.

We’re currently building New Zealand’s largest covered crop greenhouse. The smaller three hectare green house is almost complete and our first trial crops have been planted.

Meet some of our Team

With almost 45 years in the business, we’ve welcomed some incredible people into our LeaderBrand family.

Billy Floods LeaderBrand Gisbrone
Billy – Covered Production Project & Crop Manager

I started in the sweetcorn team as a Harvest Crew Supervisor and Assistant Crop Manager. I then progressed into salad leaf as Crop Manager for four years. I now oversee the building of our greenhouse and working with other areas of the business to set up sales plans for when we start growing.  Soon I will be travelling to visit other international greenhouses and learn how we can implement this in Gisborne.

Andrew Rosso
Andrew – Farm Production Manager

I started at Leaderbrand  packing squash during my Uni breaks. After graduating, I started as a junior agronomist in squash. For eight years I was the lettuce Crop Manager on the Gisborne farm. Today, I cover all aspects of crop production, from land planning, agronomy, through to financial budgeting and reporting for watermelon and export squash. I enjoy the flexibility at work and how it changes from week-to-week.

Tayla – Agronomist

I work at the Gisborne Farm across multiple crops. I organise the transplanting and agronomy for lettuce and broccoli. In the summer, I support the sweetcorn team. Recently, I was the runner up in the Hort NZ Gisborne – Young Grower of the year.

LEADERBRAND Broccoli - Taylor PUKEKOHE FARM
Taylor – Crop Production Manager

I’m the Pukekohe Farm Crop Production Manager  focused on broccoli and lettuce. What I enjoy most is working with a diverse range of people both internally and externally. It’s incredibly rewarding to growing something that starts the size of your finger and turns into a healthy head of broccoli or lettuce.

Willem – Maintenance Engineering

I have worked at LeaderBrand for three year’s. I started overseeing the maintenance in our salad house. Now I work in our pouch pack processing facility. The business relies on us to fix machine breakdowns, install new machinery and improve machine efficiencies. I really love what I do, and working alongside some neat people. No day is the same which keeps things interesting.
