Vineyard Operations Manager

LeaderBrand Produce is one of New Zealand’s largest and most diverse horticultural businesses.  A significant part of our business is our vineyard and subsequent wine production.  Based in Gisborne, this operation covers 300 plus hectares of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer vines.  We see a strong future in the Gisborne wine industry and have plans for significant growth over the next five years.

About The Role

Reporting to the Viticulturist you will coordinate and supervise the day to day machinery operations across our Gisborne vineyard sites.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work programme planning and implementation
  • Provide support to operation and field crews
  • Play a key role in training and mentoring 
  • Coordinate harvest operations
  • Manage operational side of vineyard development programmes
  • Oversee R&M scheduling and preventive maintenance.

About You

As a successful applicant you will bring a minimum of five years’ experience across all viticulture disciplines, a sound understanding of canopy management, pest and disease control and a strong background in machinery operations.  You will have prior experience in scheduling and implementing work programmes and the ability to manage multiple projects.  Flexibility and the willingness to work extended hours during peak times of the year is essential. 

You will need strong communication skills with a focus on team work along with a sound understanding of health and safety, leadership and compliance.  A strong work ethic, a can-do attitude and attention to detail is a vital.
