Nursery Assistant
Job Outline
LeaderBrand’s produce begins their lifecycle as seeds in our nursery based in Nelson Road in Gisborne. They are taken care of from germination of seeds to seedlings then onto transplantation into the fields. We supply high quality transplants both locally and nationally.
We are seeking a motivated, hands on Nursery Assistant to join our team in Gisborne. The Nursery Assistant is a full time permanent position. We are offering an excellent opportunity to gain sound knowledge of nursery operations and learn from our diverse team of growers.
About The Role
As a member of this close knit team you will be responsible for;
- green house operations and maintenance
- growing plants from seeds
- preparing soil mixes and composts
- operating and maintaining the seeding line and semi-automated irrigation systems
- watering and fertilizing plants
- monitoring plants for pests and disease
- organising stock and dispatch of plants.

About You
You will need to bring a reasonable level of fitness as this role can be physically demanding at times. A driver’s licence is essential, a forklift licence would be an advantage. During the summer months, the glass houses will be very hot and humid, there will be times you will need to help out with extra hours during the weekends.
Having a good attitude, a great sense of humour, a genuine passion for horticulture and the great outdoors will help make all the difference to joining our team!
Successful applicants must pass drug testing as part of the pre-employment process, be a New Zealand resident or hold a valid work visa and provide proof of vaccinations.
