Irrigation & Farm Operator
Job Outline
To support daily operations with farm Irrigation and water application needs. This is a hands on and operational role. A great attitude and being a team player is a must.
During the irrigation off-season and when water applications are not necessary, you will be instrumental in supporting all farming activities including, harvesting, planting, packing, groundwork, crop maintenance and agrichemical applications.
About The Role
Daily Operation of irrigation systems:
- Apply water accurately and efficiently to meet prescribed irrigation schedules for designated crops and areas.
- Operate and monitor various irrigation systems, ensuring correct pressure, flow rate, and coverage.
- Perform manual handling and setup of irrigation infrastructure such as hoses, pipes, sprinklers, valves, and pumps.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on irrigation equipment to ensure ongoing functionality.
- Move and relocate irrigation equipment safely and efficiently between fields as per crop rotation and scheduling requirements.
- Accurately record irrigation times, water usage, equipment movements, and maintenance performed in logs or digital systems as required.
- Respond promptly to changing weather patterns and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly.
- Be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on crop requirements and weather conditions.
About You
- Previous tractor experience.
- Full NZ drivers licence.
- New Zealand residency or valid work visa.
- Strong understanding of irrigation principles and water management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced farm environment.
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for maintaining and troubleshooting irrigation systems.
- Commitment to safe work practices.
- The successful applicant will require a pre-employment drug test.
