Our very own, Dayna Naera has represented us at the 2026 Pukekohe Young Grower of the Year
The national competition tests the vegetable and fruit-growing knowledge of contestants along with the skills needed to be successful growers. Competitors completed modules in marketing, compliance, pest and disease identification, safe tractor driving, finance, soil and fertilisers, irrigation and quality control.
Danya joined LeaderBrand Pukekohe in 2022 as a Harvest QC. Since then, she has progressed to the role of Post Harvest Supervisor, where she supports packhouse operations, quality control and team performance.
Entering the competition, was as an opportunity to build confidence, step outside her comfort zone and strengthen the foundations for her future in the horticulture industry.
While she did not take out the regional title, Danya’s performance made us all extremely proud.
Stepping into a competition of this calibre takes courage, and she approached the event with preparation, focus and a strong commitment to personal growth.

She’s an inspiration to the wider team and for representing the business so well on the regional stage.
Horticulture New Zealand Chief Executive Kate Scott has described the regional competitions as an important way to recognise the high level of skill among young people in the industry and to highlight the many career opportunities horticulture offers.
Scott said the competitions rely on the time, expertise and passion of regional organisers and sponsors, while also showcasing the calibre of emerging talent across New Zealand horticulture.
“These competitions recognise and celebrate the very high calibre of young people we have working in the industry and to demonstrate to others the many pathways horticulture offers into a wide range of interesting and rewarding careers.”
Thanks Dayna, we can’t wait to see what you do next.
