LeaderBrand is a locally owned and operated company who pride themselves on providing fresh quality produce to their customers. With LeaderBrand’s continued growth we are seeking a highly experienced senior automation engineer with a minimum of five or more years’ experience to lead our automation efforts. Our ideal person should be proficient in Python programming language and have extensive experience working with SCADA ignition.
The experience you bring will ensure you own the site automation process, from the design to the implementation. The automation engineer role offers variety, where no two days are the same.

The automation engineer role is a full-time permanent position based at our Processing Workshop @ 352 Lytton Road, Gisborne. Working hours will be minimum of 38 and maximum of 48 hours per week. Hourly rate will be competitive and dependent on skills and experience that you bring with you.
About The Role
- Completing in-house repairs and servicing of equipment
- Strong fault diagnosis skills with Pneumatic and PLB driven systems
- Self-management following defined KPIs/objectives, and proactively tracking them
- Exposure to TPM, preventive maintenance planning and/or maintenance
- Experience working with pumps, gearboxes, valves and conveying equipment
- Contributing to the plans and layouts of wiring and mechanical systems
- Fabrication of mechanical components and installations
- Development and implementation of maintenance plans
- Trouble shooting, automation process
- Read electrical prints and perform basic wiring up to 480 volts.
About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic person who offers:
- NZQA level 4 trade cert or diploma
- Five or more years of experience in automation engineering
- Strong proficiency in Python programming language
- Extensive experience working with SCADA ignition
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems (ICS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC)
- Knowledge of other programming languages (such as Java, C++, or C#)
- Expertise with software development methodologies and practices
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
It would be a massive advantage if you also have:
- Computer skills, typing skills and the ability to manipulate data using spreadsheets
- Operate Forklift, Scissor Lift, and JLG
- Certified in LOTO
- Work as a team member to solve problems
- Scada knowledge, coding skills.
