Research and Development Technologist

About the role

Join our hard working technical team as a Research and Development Technologist. This is a senior position within our team and you will report directly to the General Manager – Food Safety and Quality. 

This role is responsible for:

-          Providing support and expertise across the farm and production sites to assist with quality and food safety issues along with the planning and execution of research and development projects

-    Providing scientific support to achieve our environmental strategic objectives

-          Supporting new product development projects to ensure all stakeholders are kept informed and the project is kept on track to meet deadlines

-          Seasonal quality assurance support at our Pouch Plant factory.

You can expect to work in our labs, Pouch Plant and Fresh Cut processing plants, farms and office environments.

This role is based in Gisborne, New Zealand.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should have the following:

-          A tertiary qualification in food technology, food science, food engineering, environmental science, horticulture, agri-science or similar. A post-graduate qualification (Masters or PhD) would be advantageous but not essential

-          At least 3-5 years experience working in the food industry

-          Proven project management experience with the ability to build strong cross-functional teams and complete complex projects within tight deadlines

-          Experience planning, designing and executing research projects along with analyzing data and making/implementing recommendations

-          Experience in quality assurance would be an advantage

-          Experience in new product development would be an advantag

-          Experience in environmental aspects of operating within the food industry (trade waste, waste water etc) would be an advantage.

You will ned o be a practical, hands-on individual who is results driven and can work well as part of a team, leading when required. You must have excellent project management, communication, organisation, written and record keeping skills.
