LeaderBrand’s introduction to the fresh cut salad and vegetable industry has been marked by the construction of a purpose built pressurised facility to the highest levels of food safety in New Zealand.

Considerable time was taken in designing the two-storey facility and selecting world-class equipment to meet the quality, food safety parameters and operating efficiencies required by LeaderBrand. The shelf life and nutritional attributes of fresh cut salads is determined by the post harvest cooling of the product and the time from harvesting to processing facility, which are only minutes from the fields. This minimises the supply chain where most product deterioration occurs. The result of these components is a world-class facility with capacity to produce an extensive range of product to the highest standard.

Why are LeaderBrand salads better?

Quality – Food Safety – Freshness – Shelf Life

Quality – Most salads currently available in the New Zealand market are processed by companies who buy in the majority of their salad ingredients. This means the quality of the product varies considerably. LeaderBrand are the grower and processor hence our motto   We have strict quality specifications, priding ourselves on the quality of the product we produce and market under our own brand.

Food Safety –  LeaderBrand's food safety programme is accredited by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.

Freshness  – Most salads currently available in the New Zealand market are processed in the major metropolitan areas, a long way from where the salad ingredients are grown. This means the product often lacks freshness, vitality and shelf life. LeaderBrand have located our processing facility in the midst of our growing area. We harvest from the field and transport the product directly to the processing plant, thereby ensuring the taste, nutrients and shelf life are maintained.

Shelf Life – Many of the salads available for purchase today, do not seem to last long in the refrigerator and develop unpleasant odours after storing. Many points determine shelf life of salads:

  • Post Harvest Cooling
  • Processing Temperatures & Conditions
  • Packaging specifically designed to accommodate each individual product
  • Cool Chain Control

This prevents deterioration in freshness, nutritional value, taste and vitality of the salad ingredients, which in turn improves the shelf life of the salad for you, our customer.
